The Royal Lochnagar 12 Yr Old Game of Thrones House Baratheon | 1784!

Founder of the original Lochnagar distillery, James Robertson clearly had a few foes in the business as competitors burned it down and – after Robertson built a new distillery – the second subsequently suffered the same fate.

Lochnagar managed to establish a greater amount of luck and success when in 1845, John Begg built his ‘New Lochnagar’ which gained a rare Royal Warrant only a few years later.

Laphroaig 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 1787!
Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the ‘broad hollow by the bay’. In 1994 the Prince of Wales awarded it the Royal Warrant, an accolade attested to no other whisky on earth.

Rumour has it that it was the Prince’s most favoured whisky.

Having said that, Laphroaig is often perceived as quite an acquired taste amongst the faint of heart, perhaps due to its intense peaty, smoky and rich flavours. During the prohibition, an American Surgeon General was adamant that it was unfit for recreational consumption, and instead declared it to be strictly utilised for medical purposes only.

Today, it is the biggest selling single malt from Islay, and one of the last distilleries using its own floor maltings.

The Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost Game of Thrones House Stark | 1795!

Dalwhinnie is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level and set in the beautifully scenic Cairngorm National Park.

The name Dalwhinnie is derived from the Gaelic word Dail-coinneeamh - meaning 'meeting place' - referring to the meeting of ancient cattle drovers' routes through the mountains. The visitor centre tour was awarded 'Best Distillery Tour of 2017' by Drinks International and callers at the distillery are taught about whisky and chocolate pairings.

The Dalwhinnie single malt itself is one of Diageo's bestsellers and is used as the signature malt in the Buchanan's blend.

To accompany the final series of the epic HBO drama, Diageo helped ease the tension by releasing a range of eight bottlings - one for each season of the show - from eight different distilleries across the Scottish regions each representing a Game of Thrones House and adorned with the respective crest; supposedly with some connection between the dynasty and the distillery.

Valkyrie celebrates our rich Nordic ancestry here in Orkney, once part of a vast Viking kingdom. According to Norse mythology, Valkyries would descend onto the battlefields to find the best and bravest warriors and give them passage to Valhalla.

Valkyrie is the first in a series of three special Viking Legend releases and was awarded the Chairman’s Trophy in the 2017 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, scoring 99 out of 100. The packaging for the whole series was created by Jim Lyngvild, a Danish designer and artist of international renown, whose great grandfather 36 generations ago was Ragnvald Eysteinsson, the first Earl of the Orkney Islands.

The combination of sherry seasoned European and American oak casks with ex-bourbon casks gives Valkyrie the aroma of crisp green apples in a spice market and an aroma of faraway campfires. We call it ‘Liquorice Lantern Smoke’.

The Bowmore Enigma 12yr Old 1L 1803!

Surely there are few locations more evocative than the shores of Lochindaal, an area positively steeped in rich Scottish folklore. It's no wonder then that Bowmore has a whiff of magic about it (or perhaps that's just the whisky). The oldest distillery on Islay, Bowmore still retains its own floor maltings, and while they can no longer meet all of the busy distillery's requirements, they still contribute a third of the malt used in every mash.

Just because something is old, doesn't mean it's old-fashioned, and Bowmore's eco friendly heat recovery system not only cuts down on those pesky bills, it also heats the town swimming pool!

Bowmore Enigma was originally bottled for travel retail and boasts a higher proportion of Sherry matured malt in its make up.
