GlenAllachie Single Cask 2006 Aged 16 Years PX Hogshead #6607 70cl 59%
This single cask from Glenallachie has bathed for 16 years in a pedro ximenez hogshead from 2006 – 2022. Only 376 bottles were released with natural colour non-chill filtered. This single malt explodes with a dried fruit character.
Nose: dusty cocoa powder, dark nougat caramel and a rich allspice Dundee cake
Palate: toasted oak dates, cocoa and baking spices
Finish: oaky vanilla and spices
GlenAllachie Single Cask 2007 Aged 15 Years Oloroso Puncheon #800179 70cl 58%
This single cask aged 15 years from 2007 – 2022 in an oloroso sherry puncheon. Non – chill-filtered with no added colour, each of the 720 bottles boasts a plethora of savoury nuttiness.
Nose: evokes jaggery ( a course of dark brown sugar made in India by evaporation of the sap of palm trees ), roasted nuts, spicy malt loaf and praline
Palate: gives up cocoa nibs, Ferrero rocher, caramel .apples with warm cinnamon.
Finish: spices saunter along with toasted almonds
GlenAllachie Single Cask 2008 Aged 13 Years Moscatel Barrique #418 70cl 56.7%
This is Glenallachie’s seventh batch of single cask distilled in 2008 and matured for 13 years in a barrique which previously held Moscatel, a Spanish sweet dessert wine. Only 322 bottles of this fruity Speyside were produced.
Nose: offers up Honey and heather with hints of orange and lemon peel complemented with oaky vanilla and peppery spice
Palate: brings creamy porridge peppered with brown sugar, sundried raisins, and green grapes with spicy malt loaf and toasted hazelnut
Finish: Floral Honey and oaky spice.
GlenAllachie Single Cask 2009 Aged 13 Years Sauternes Barrique #3712 70cl 59.4%
This 13 year old single cask was matured in an oak cask that previously held Sauternes, a sweet dessert wine from southwest France that adds elegant spice and stoned fruit to the Glenallachie honeyed spirit. This bottle was just 312 bottles.
Nose: bursting with honey heather citrus and chocolate with hints of cinnamon mocha and apples
Palate: an abundance of tropical fruit honeyed apricot with gingerbread and a hint of vanilla
Finish: dried apricot and baking spices
GlenAllachie Distillery
Nestled at the foot of Ben Rinnes lies one of the best-kept secrets in Speyside Glenallachie, which means Valley of the Rocks. The name is apt as the geology surrounding the distillery is abundant in Pictish stones and Celtic ruins. The story began in 1967. William-Delme Evans designed Glenallachie, his fourth distillery, designed and built by Mackinlay McPherson, the distillery arm of Scottish and Newcastle. It was designed to be almost entirely gravity fed to run on reduced energy. The distillery draws its water from spring-fed and snow-water-fed ponds northeast of Ben Rinnes.
With the capability of producing almost three million litres of alcohol, the first production run began in February 1968.
Operations begin with just two stills, but after only six months, it’s increased to four stills.
In 1985 the distillery was mothballed when Mackinlay Mcpherson became part of Invergordon.
April 24th 1989, production began again after Campbell Distilleries acquired the distillery, which later became part of Pernod Ricard. Production is kept going for another 29 years.
2017 and it all changed again when Trisha Savage, Graham Stevenson and Billy Walker joined forces and acquired the distillery
and Glenallachie Distillery becomes Glenallachie Distillers Company Limited
This merger combines over 100 years of industry knowledge, skill and expertise.
Production has been reduced to just 500,000 L.O.A, but extended fermentation time to 160 hours.
The distillery uses a semi-lauter mash tun and six stainless steel washbacks. It also uses two lantern-shaped wash stills and two onion-shaped spirit stills for distillation.
In their 16 on-site warehouses, there are currently over 50,000 casks, some of which date back to the 1970s
July 2018 and the first release of the core range of single malts, a 10,12,18 and 25-year-old non-chill filtered and bottled natural coloured 46% abv.
