Glen Ord is a malt whisky distillery located on the Black Isle in Scotland’s Highland region.
It was founded in Muir of Ord in 1838 by Thomas MacKenzie and is today part of the extensive Diageo holdings, having been folded into the Distillers Company in 1925 through its merger with Buchanan-Dewar.
Today it is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that is self-sufficient in malt and also provisions several other producers in the Diageo group.
Over the years, the distillery’s single malt has been sold under various different brand names. In the late 19th century it was marketed as Glenoran, whereas John Dewar & Sons sold it as Glenordie in the 1980s.
In its most recent guise it is part of the multi-distillery The Singleton brand, for which it also houses the visitor experience.
