Production was seized just a couple of years later, This is the first release of Old Harmony, replaced by a redesigned label some time later. With its distinctive square bottle, its label angled precisely at 24° and the iconic Striding Man, Johnnie Walker is the world's best selling Scotch whisky retailing more than 20 million cases a year. It was first created in Kilmarnock in 1865 and is now available in almost every country in the world with the establishment of significant 'Houses' across Asia. As he progressed within the business, he decided to build Japan's first distillery despite protests from company directors. This is where Masataka Taketsuru comes into the picture. He was hired as a distillery executive at Yamazaki on the outskirts of Kyoto. He later left the company to found his own. For a period, Campbeltown was the undisputed Whisky Capital of World, boasting over 30 distilleries operating simultaneously at its peak. Locally available peat, barley and coal, coupled with a quick steamship service to Glasgow meant this thriving industry lasted into the early 20th Century.
