The Macallan was one of the first distillers in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then we have built a reputation as one of the world’s leading single malt whiskies.
The creation of The Macallan draws on the vital contributing influences of Spain, North America and Scotland – and of their respective natural raw materials, combined with traditional methods and craftsmanship.
“MAGHELLAN”
The Macallan distillery was founded by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. The original name of the area was “Maghellan”, taken from the Gaelic word “magh”, meaning fertile ground and “Ellan”, from the Monk St.Fillan – who held a close association with the church that stood in the grounds of The Macallan Estate until 1400. Farmers had been making whisky on their Speyside farms in the area for centuries, using their surplus barley during the quieter winter months.
The Macallan Rare 2022
The highly anticipated 2023 Rare Cask release from The Macallan is a showcase of whisky from the finest sherry-seasoned casks. The casks have been selected as they bring a particularly complex, raisin-forward character to the Highland single malt Scotch whisky.
Nose Soft notes of vanilla with rich raisin, followed by a sweet fusion of fresh apple, lemon and orange.
Palate An intense sweet raisin dominates before giving way to vanilla and dark chocolate, with layers of light citrus zest.
Finish Long, rich and velvety.
The Macallan Terra
Forming part of the Travel Retail quest range, Macallan Terra was matured in first fill sherry oak casks made from European and American oak. The nose is fresh and vibrant with notes of oranges, coffee, brioche buns, sultanas and walnut loaf.
Nose Fresh orange, brioche, coffee, sultana and walnut loaf.
Palate Melted chocolate, dried apricot, toffee pennies and a touch of strawberry jam.
Finish Baking spices and dried oak notes take shape on the finish.
The Macallan A Night on Earth The Journey II
The Macallan’s A Night on Earth series embarks on a journey to China with this limited edition single malt. Matured in a combo of bourbon barrels, alongside sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, the striking, multi-layered packaging is designed by acclaimed Chinese artist Nini Sum, and represents the different stages of coming together with loved ones at New Year.
Nose Toasty oak with citrus, vanilla, oat biscuits and creamy coconut.
Palate Lemon and lime freshness mixed with toasted coconut and vanilla sponge.
Finish Medium with sweet toasted oak vanilla notes and a dusting of spice

The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask Highland single malt whisky is exclusively sherry seasoned whisky with the ideal balance of European and American oak maturation to create a distinctive American oak style sweet, honeyed and rounded. Creamy butterscotch with a hint of toffee apple, candied orange, vanilla custard and newly felled oak. Deliciously honeyed, wood spices and citrus, balanced with raisins and caramel. It is Oak lingers, warm, sweet and drying finish.
Nose Classic dried fruit territory, if less intense than the Sherry Oak expression. Aromatic butterscotch too.
Palate Creamy and honeyed with some thick-cut marmalade, cinnamon and warm pastries.
Finish Fruity with vanilla and sultana.
