This Dalmore 12-year-old is one of the older style bottlings. This presentation of the Dalmore 12 is no longer available from the distillery. A unique, limited and very hard to find 12 YO whisky from the Dalmore distillery. Dalmore distillery was used as a deep-sea mine production centre by the Royal Navy between 1917 and 1920. After the navy departed, the distillery was left in tatters, and - after a long compensation battle involving the House of Lords - the distillery was brought back online in 1922. Now Dalmore, under the stewardship of Richard Paterson, presents itself as a luxury brand with a history of wealthy backers, with some of its bottlings among the most expensive in the world. This Dalmore is medium to full bodied velvety malt, with a golden colour infused with a deep, mahogany glow. Situated in the Firth of Clyde, the island of Arran was once a hotbed of illicit distillation and smuggling. Eventually though the dreaded Excise men got the best of Arran’s renegade stillmen, and the island was without a working distillery from 1837.

Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by independent bottler Murray McDavid. For a long time the distillery was the black sheep of Islay, on account of producing unpeated whisky in order to meet its owner’s blending requirements. Contrary to general expectations though, this also made it a hit with the locals who were presumably sick of the sight of peat.

Laphroaig was founded in 1815 by two brothers from the unassuming Johnston family on the south coast of Islay. Named after the location that the distillery itself was created upon, the name loosely translates to the ‘broad hollow by the bay’. In 1994 the Prince of Wales awarded it the Royal Warrant, an accolade attested to no other whisky on earth. Rumour has it that it was the Prince’s most favoured whisky.
